In this episode:
It’s a very special Free Comic Book Day episode! We talk about the free comic book issues that we got at All Star Comics this past May 4th: Action Time Buddies, Adventure Time (Kaboom! Summer Blast), Axe Cop, Atomic Robo + Bodie Troll, Archaia’s Mouse Guard + Rust + Cow Boy, Avatar the Last Airbender + Star Wars, Steam Engines of Oz, Dark Axis, and Zombolette. We also talk about our adventures at the Artist’s Alley, getting sketches of Batman selfies from the wonderful artists who were there that day. Unfortunately, the audio for this episode got really horrible and distorted in the middle; so, apologies for that. I also talk about some of the books that I bought at FCBD 2013: Walking to Japan by Ben Hutchings, Crusades by Izu, Alex Nikolavitch and Zhang Xiaoyu, Spaceman by Brian Azzarello and Eduardo Risso, Great Pacific by John Harris and Martin Morazzo, and Hawkeye: My Life as a Weapon by Matt Fraction and David Aja (with horrible accents and a reference to this NZ Legend Ad, bro). More nostalgia time with Sky Gunner, Nausicaa and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Scientifically Accurate Ninja Turtles!).
Board games time! We talk about playing a very friendly game of Bohnanza, and a politically incorrect game of Lords of Waterdeep over the weekend (Just to clarify, when we said we called the rogues “black guys”, it was because the pieces were literally coloured black and were supposed to represent rogues that you recruit). We look forward to some card games we would like to have: Story War, Cards Against Humanity and The Metagame. We also talk about the games we played at Eurogames at the Royal Standard this past week: 1812 – The Invasion of Canada, Love Letter, Puerto Rico and Citadels. Love Letter in particular is ah-mah-zing!
All in all, a very satisfying Free Comic Book Day and lots of great board games played over the weekend. It’s a great time to be a geek. :)
