Two episodes this week! It is because I am a horrible hack and didn’t get last week’s episode edited :(
In this episode:
Daniel and I have some movie talk on Iron Man 3 and Star Trek Into Darkness. We also try to identify a series that provide introduction and insight into geek culture like Genshiken did. Finally, we discuss armour choices for women in video games and comics. What are you waiting for? Go make with the clicky-clicky!
In other talk, I go over my new haul of board games: Tzolk’in: The Mayan Calendar! Galaxy Trucker Anniversary Edition! String Railway! Arctic Scavengers! (Which I bought after reading Matt Drake’s review. Good on you, sir.) Survive Dolphin Mini Expansion! There’s also Daenerys eating a Pony for some reason?
We also watched a crazy balls coconutty extra strength mint promo for Somebody Up There Likes Me, which led Evan to attempt a sketch of Nick Offerman. It’s really manly. Also, Daniel pervs on Linda Le while recording? Tch tch. How un-proffesh.
You’ll also probably notice that we were eating gummi bears throughout the episode. Mmmmm gummi bears.
I talk about my love for Marvel’s all-ages books. Marvel Adventures Avengers are my canon Avengers. Thor The Might Avenger and Captain America The Fighting Avenger were also really fun.
Evan shows us some Robot + Cannibal slashfic.
What the wee-wow? Daniel watches anime?! Shingeki no Kyojin must be some hot shit. And Evan gets a chance to go on about OreImo again. Also, Genshiken! Which leads us into a brief conversation about the difference between western geek culture and otaku. We also mention Welcome to the NHK! as a series covering otaku and NEET issues. This whole thing leads to my question about a series that is similar to Genshiken. We try to think of some, and end up talking about The Big Bang Theory, The IT Crowd, Spaced and KC Green’s The Anime Club. Feel free to chime in if you have any other suggestions!
I espouse my love of Nextwave’s version of Fin Fang FOOOOOM!
Daniel reminds me how I used to do six word summaries of movies and media. Here are my new attempts:
Iron Man 3: Gwyneth Paltrow’s Abs Are Pretty Nice.
Star Trek Into Darkness: Bend Yer Dick, Cum Her Snatch.
We also discuss the armour choices for female characters, catalysed by Evan’s link to Repair Her Armour. We also talk about costume designs for Korra, Power Girl and Star Sapphire.
Finally, some quick game talk: Daniel tells us about the updates to Plague Inc. and I sploosh about Kemet.
